Dark Repulser
Elucidator
Kirito, whose real name is Kirigaya Kazuto, is the primary protagonist of Sword Art Online. He was originally a beta tester during the beta of the game. Early on, after it was revealed by Kayaba Ahihiko that death was a real threat, he split up with his new friend Klein before 2,000 people died.
Beater
When the strongest players met to figure out a way to beat the 1st floor boss, Kirito was initially unable to form a party with anyone, as he had not developed friendships, being a solo player. In the end he teamed up with Asuna, though at the time he didn't know it was her. During the battle with Illfang the Kobald Lord, Diavel, the leader of the group, was killed, and revealed to Kirito he was a beta tester as well. Afterwards, Kirito and Asuna's combined efforts defeated Illfang, but his troubles weren't over. Kibaou, a hater of the beta testers, claimed that if their were any, they were the cause of Diavel's death due to misinformation about Illfang's weaponry. Kirito took this blame onto himself and proclaimed his title to be a "beater". He then donned his last attack bonus, the Coat of Midnight, as a sign of his new status.

The Moonlit Black Cats

Some time later, Kirito found and saved the guild The Moonlit Black Cats. He was accepted into their guild, which was made up of a group of friends in the real world, for his kindness. He kept his true level, which was twice as high as theirs, a secret so as to not reveal his status as a Beater. While exploring a dungeon with the rest of the guild, minus their leader Keita, they accidently set off a trap and all of them except Kirito were killed, and he was paticularly distressed about the death of Sachi, who he had begun to feel close to. When he told this to Keita and revealed his status as a beater, Keita jumped off Aincrad and commited suicide.

Nicholas the Renegade
Kirito eventually heard about the Flag Mob Nicohlas the Renegade, months after the deaths. It was rumoured that the boss would drop an item that would revive a fallen player. Now not caring if he died or not, Kirito set out to battle the boss. With some help from Klein and his guild, Kirito managed to defeat Nicholas and gain the item, but found out it only worked if used momments after a player's death. Now thouroughly depressed, Kirito found an item in his inventory that was a message from Sachi, before she died. Now firmly reassured, Kirito set out again as a solo player.

Silica and the Titan's Hand
The player killer guild the Titan's Hand attacked another guild some time later. The Titan's Hand slaughtered the entire guild except for the leader, who escaped and began looking for help in apprehending the killers. Kirito agreeded to help. Meanwhile, Silica and joined a party with Rosalia, a member of the Titan's Hand without knowing it. When the party's items were not shared fairly, Silica stormed off into the woods, but soon was attacked by Drunken Apes. Kirito saved her, but not before her tamed animal Pina was killed. That night Kirito told her of an tem that would help revive Pina. However she thought it was out of her level range, but still would go later. However Kirito warned her that she only had three days to retrieve the flower. Impressed by this item, the itan's Hand set a trap for the duo, and while they were returning from theHill of Memories, Rosalina revealed the ambush. Kirito's level allowed him to easily stay untired from their attacks, and then used a crystal to send them all to jail, despite Rosalina's pleas. That night, Silica found out about his beater status, but din't care, and revived Pina.

The Fall of the Golden Apple
The Golden Apple was an eight member guild that broke up after they found a rare treasure and could not decide what to do with it. Some time later after that, Caynz, a former member was supposedly murdered in a safe zone, an event that should be impossible. Kirio and Asuna teamed up once more in order to solve the case. They soon met Yolko, another former member, but she was supposedly murdered as well. Kirito gave chase, but the player escaped using a crystal. Schmitt, another member of the guild, was now scared that Griselda, their guild's dead leader, was killing them as a ghost. However Kirito and Asuna figured out that Caynz and Yolko had not been murdered. Instead, their armor durabillity had worn away, and then they had teleported. Just in time, Kirito arrived to save the three former Golden Apple members from the Laughing Coffin murder guild. The guild had been hired by Grimlock, Griselda's insane husband, to not only kill her, but also his guild. He no longer felt that Griselda, who was also his real wife, felt close to him, and he killed her. He was arrested, and the Murder case closed.
